Receiving this scholarship could not have been at a better time. I had just decided to do drum corps for my first time in 2024. I auditioned late for the corps I marched with and when I accepted the contract my parents and I weren’t exactly sure HOW we were going to make it work. We just knew it was going to happen. I soon after received this scholarship and they allowed me to use it towards my marching expenses. Not only was that the best summer of my life for creating memories and making friends, the education that I came out with is something I can use with my students forever. Now that I am about to finish my final year of Music Education at WCU, I feel pretty confident about wanting to go into High School to be a band director. I would love to pursue higher education and get a degree in conducting to someday teach at the collegiate level.

The weight that comes along with receiving this scholarship is heavy. But the fact it exists and is here to change people’s lives doesn’t go unnoticed, because it changed mine. I could never thank the Cohick family enough for the opportunities I have been gifted after receiving this scholarship.
